Five players named second team All-State PDF E-mail

A total of 18 area basketball players were named to second-team or honorable mention All-State squads last week by the Lincoln Journal Star.

High Plains boasted two players on the Class D1 boys second team, including junior Logan Fleming and sophomore Cole Klingsporn. Giltner senior Dustin Hastings was named to the Class D2 second team.

Fleming and Klingsporn led the Storm to their second straight state tournament with 18 and 15.1 points per game, respectively. Hastings helped Giltner reach the state tournament with 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Hampton senior Teya Mason and Giltner junior Dani Most were both named to the Class D2 girls second team.

Mason ended her career as one of the top scorers in Lady Hawks history, finishing her senior year with 20.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Most led Giltner to its second-ever state tourney with 15.5 points and 4.2 boards a contest.

On the honorable mention boys lists included Ben McQuiston, Alex Hunt and Cole Ashby of Aurora, Dylan Shenk and Alex Bender of High Plains, and Kyle Hawthorne, Dylan Hinrichs, Jake Findley and Ryan Kleier of Giltner.

Girls honorable mention athletes included Taylor Thiele of Aurora, Abbey Preissler of Giltner, and Kalynn Dahlke and Hannah Bamesberger of Hampton.
