This summer’s annual A’ROR’N Days celebration will be filled with fun, food and friends with a new twist this year -- a “game show” theme.
Most activities during the weekend will be similar to previous years, but with a few new additions. The weekend’s festivities will be kicked off by the start of Aurora’s Amazing Race, there will be a family game night, and a dodgeball tournament on Friday.
When brainstorming the theme for A’ROR’N days, the committee thought that “Game Shows” would help bring new excitement and games to the celebration.
“We are really excited about this year’s theme of “TV game shows,”” said Jenny Wyatt, president of the A’ROR’N Days Committee. “We have a lot of new members on our committee that had a lot of new ideas. We felt like this theme would lend itself to creating some new events. We’re hoping that people will have fun with it.”
With the addition of a family game night to go with the theme, Thursday night will have families playing Minute-to-win-it, Deal or no Deal, and Family Feud-style games.
“Family Game Night” will be on the stage Thursday night from 8-9. Within that hour we will play four or five different mini game shows in front of the audience,” Wyatt said. “We will start with Generation Gap, with the Youth Center vs. The Senior Center. They will test their knowledge of pop culture from the opposite generation. After that, we will challenge the audience with some Aurora Trivia thanks to the Plainsman Museum.”
Then, the Amazing Race will conclude on the stage with participants doing their last task in front of the audience.
The Amazing Race will have teams follow clues that lead them around town in a scavenger hunt-like fashion.
“Teams will test their skills with a wide variety of challenges; there are some puzzles, some trick shots, some art and hopefully a lot of laughs,” Wyatt said. “Teams will spend two hours racing around that afternoon, then they will be invited to participate in the finale that evening during Family Game Night.”
Anyone can participate in the Amazing Race, but is asked to register. You can do this by emailing: arorndays@gmail.com.
A’ROR’N Days is all about bringing together community members of all walks of life for a little fun and celebration.
“We are really excited to see Aurorans young and old get together and have a great time celebrating our community and what makes it special,” Wyatt said.
Anyone who is interested in registering a team for the dodgeball and volleyball tournaments, Aurora’s Amazing Race, and family night games can email arorndays@gmail.com for more information.
