Flag Day will forever have a different meaning for me as June 14th is the day our youngest daughter, Blayke Morgan, married the man of her dreams.
Since Thanksgiving weekend of 2021 we’ve known Blayke had a someone special in her life, and that someone, Joe Froehner, became her husband on a memorable day in Omaha. I could tell by the smile that never left her face that this was a Bucket List day for Blayke from start to finish, as it was for me.
Paula and I have had this day circled on the calendar for a few months now, but somewhere deep down inside I’ve been looking forward taking that memorable walk with our youngest since she was a very little girl. Blayke has always had and always will have a very special place in my heart. She is part of so many of the most precious memories in my life, through our family time together and in countless one-on-one experiences. To see her grow into the young woman she is and find the man who cherishes all the little things that make her unique is just so heart-warming.
From a very young age our youngest made it clear she wanted to do things her own way; not to stand out or get attention, but just to be her. I remember some of the fashion choices she made, for example, whether it was a necklace that almost never came off as a kid, or glass frames and watches she chose when a little older, she did things her way without regard for what others might say. In more recent years Blayke has become a world traveler, and whether on trips in-country or abroad she is always focused on being present, seeking adventure behind the scenes, not just taking a photo at the most popular spots. It takes imagination and sometimes a little courage to take your own path, or to make your own path, and it makes a father proud to see his daughter live life with such conviction and purpose. I know I’m beyond biased, but this girl is special. She’s unique. She’s Blayke with a Y, and in my eyes she’s a good catch.
As for our new son-in-law, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Joe to our family. It means so much to a father to see your baby girl in such a strong, loving, respectful relationship. I feel like she’s in good hands with Joe by her side, and vice versa, which is all any father can hope and pray for.
Blayke, in my heart and mind’s eye, will always be our little girl, my little girl, but I was thrilled beyond words to see her become a bride. Her mother and I wish our newlyweds a life filled with love and the opportunity to watch their own children give them the joy that she and her sister have given us.
Here’s to a long and happy life together as man and wife. Cheers to Blayke and Joe!
