Dear Editor:
For the first time in at least 60 years, there won’t be a July 4th fireworks display in Aurora and that is unfortunate. A town this size shouldn’t have trouble raising funds or putting some funds in the right budget for this celebration.
When it was first decided to move the fireworks display to A’ROR’N Days I contacted the committee about my concern with that change. I said that people come back for alumni events and to see family, not fireworks. Fireworks displays were well attended on July 4th, so why change something that was successful? My concerns were brushed off and ignored.
When my parents were in business on the square, merchants donated money to add to what was in the Chamber budget and those donations were listed in the newspaper. This, in turn, prompted others to donate as private citziens, along with other organizations.
Maybe it is too late for this year, but let’s get back to celebrating July 4th as was done in the past.
Bobbie Campbell,
Aurora
