Wilbur Salmon - January 05, 2013

Wilbur Salmon, 89, of Grand Island, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the chapel of Higby-McQuiston in Aurora. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Wilbur Louis Salmon, son of Peter ‘Bud’ C. and Edna (Ross) Salmon, was born on a farm west of Stockham on June 15, 1923.
Wilbur attended the Verona country school in Hamilton County and attended Stockham High School.
Wilbur married Arlene Eckerson on Sept. 1, 1946. They farmed in the Stockham area for 40 years. Wilbur served on the Stockham Town Board and School Board for several years. He also did some trucking. They retired in 1986 and moved to Grand Island. Wilbur continued to work for the Aurora Coop for several years in their Doniphan facility and the Gosda Car Wash in Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Salmon of Grand Island; three children, Jerry (Mamie) Salmon of Geneva, Dennis (Vicki) Salmon of Hastings and Lonnie (Diane) Salmon of Stockham; eight grandchildren, Roddy Salmon and special friend Jeannie, Joey (Kathy) Salmon, Julie (Andy) Tiemeyer, Heather (Kevin) Bonin, Adam Salmon and fiancée Yael, Krystal Salmon and special friend Tyler, Kerry (Randy) Slaymaker and Colt (Jasmin) Salmon; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Arnold Salmon of California; and sister, Imogene Farthing of Florida.
