Health challenge to kick off in March PDF E-mail

Area residents hoping and planning to lose some weight as part of their New Year’s resolution may have a little extra incentive with a local weight loss competition offering $500 as first prize.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Aurora News-Register and Memorial Community Health Inc. are teaming up to coordinate a health challenge, which will officially kick off in March. The competition invites two-person teams to weigh in on March 17-20, and again 100 days later. The team that loses the greatest percentage of combined body weight will win $500 cash, with $300 awarded for second and $200 for third. A $100 prize will also be awarded to the team with the most creative name.
Other prizes and incentives may also be added, with final details to be announced later along with additional contest sponsors.
“MCHI is proud to be a sponsor of the Hamilton County Health Challenge again this year,” said Brad Bangs,” director of rehabilitation services.
“We are looking forward to this year’s success stories as people make a commitment to live healthier lifestyles in the challenge.  It is exciting every year to see and hear how people make changes to become more active and look for healthier options when planning what to eat.”
Tom and Kim Wanek won last year’s challenge, losing a combined 57.5 pounds, or 12.14 percent of their total body weight. Ramon and Lorena Rodriguez finished second by losing 41.7 pounds, with TJ Collingham and Jeff Wilson placing third at 42.9 pounds.
A total of 67 teams signed up for the event, which concluded with an award presentation at the A’ROR’N Days fun run. Twenty-five teams weighed out at the end, losing a combined 521 pounds.
