Poverty project an eye-opener PDF E-mail

In an era when the majority of Aurora High School students carry their own smartphone, drive their own car and have cash in their pocket, it’s hard for them to imagine there’s poverty in their community or parents who don’t know where their family’s next meal is going to come from.
Their eyes have been opened to the world a few of their classmates deal with, though, thanks to an English project that introduced them to the Hamilton County Food Pantry, Ministerial Association, Backpack Program, the county’s general assistance program, Thrift Shop and other entities that provide assistance to those in need.
Cathie English, who teaches the English 4 class, said while many students were unaware there was poverty and hunger in Hamilton County, several other students had first-hand knowledge because they were living it.
