Huskies 4th at state meet PDF E-mail

Aurora finished the golf season with a 4th place finish at the Class B state meet played at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney. The Huskies posted a 664 to finish just three strokes behind runner-up Omaha Skutt. Norris won the title with a 649 and McCook was third at 663.

Senior Mitch Oswald was low man for Aurora with a 159, good for a 7th place medal. Sophomore Luke Grossnicklaus also brought home some hardware, shooting a 162 to finish 9th. Ben Grossnicklaus shot a 167, Nate Bell 176, and Connor Strong 189. Watch next week's News-Register for complete meet coverage.

 
Field turf work begins PDF E-mail

Work began Monday tearing up the asphalt high jump runway at Aurora High School, the first piece of the puzzle in a summer-long effort to replace natural grass inside the oval with field turf.

Field Turf Next Spoke organizers announced last week that more than $500,000 had been raised, which meant the project was all systems go. The plan is to remove the sod immediately, then build a base so turf can be installed and ready for use by the Huskies’ home opener Aug. 24.

 

 

 
Oswalds witness ‘miracle recovery' from lymphoma PDF E-mail

Matt Oswald is one of those kids who competes in everything -- football, basketball, track, baseball, weightlifting.

He’s been that way since he was a little tyke, keeping up with his athletic siblings and just being a boy.

Then January of 2012 rolled around and Oswald found himself feeling a little under the weather. A trip to the doctor and a diagnosis of bronchitis put him on steroids and antibiotics.
