Voters reject sales tax PDF E-mail

Aurora voters left no doubt Tuesday, defeating a 1 percent, five-year sales tax proposal touted as a way to fund an aquatic center by a vote of 998 to 291.

The 77/23 percent margin of victory sent a message, according to a Yes We Can committee spokesman who worked hard to defeat the city’s proposal.

 
Golfers headed to state PDF E-mail

Senior Mitch Oswald picked a good day to go low Monday, playing 3-under on the back nine to post a 1-under 71 in the B-3 District Golf Tournament at Southern Hills. Oswald jarred his third shot from 40 yards out to eagle the par-5 14th and earn medalist honors, and the Huskies finished second as a team with a 315 to earn a ticket to next week's two-day state meet in Kearney.

Connor Strong finished eighth with a 78; Nate Bell had an 82; Luke Grossnicklaus carded an 84; and Ben Grossnicklaus shot 85. See this week's News-Register for details.

Two Aurora school records fell and multiple personal bests were recorded Thursday at the District B-5 Track Meet at Grand Island Northwest.

The Huskies qualified 16 for the May 18-19 Nebraska State Track and Field Meet at Omaha Burke, including eight boys and eight girls.
