Aurora city sales tax to expire Monday PDF E-mail

After this weekend, area retailers will have to make a change.

Aurora will no longer collect a 1 percent local option sales tax after more than 77 percent of voters decided against renewing the tax in the May primary election.

It means vendors who collected the extra tax will no longer have to do so, dropping the tax collected locally back to the 5.5 state sales tax.

Whatever the cause, the server that contains all of Hamilton County’s GIS, city, villages and Homeland Security information has been compromised and the cost to the county could have been staggering.

While it was feared the cost to recover data from a corrupt hard drive, an internal backup and an external backup for the server in the surveyor’s office could total upwards of $100,000, it may end up costing the county a tenth of that amount.

That was good news for the county, but it came with a dose of bad news when Hamilton County surveyor Duane Katt told commissioners he believes someone entered his office at least twice after hours, breached the passwords and removed files before corrupting the hard drive and backups.

Husky Homecoming PDF E-mail

Friday was a great day to be a Husky, as Aurora High School students joined with the community in celebrating the final day of Homecoming activities. A downtown parade drew hundreds of red-clad folks to the downtown square. At halftime of the football game, Alex Brechbill and Savannah Epp were crowned Homecoming king and queen.
